On June 4, Tasha Museles, CCF’s Executive Director, received a generous contribution of $1,000 from students at the Ft. Smallwood Elementary School (FSES) in Anne Arundel County through a designated donation from Bethesda-based non-profit The Giving Square. Like the 14 others throughout the region, The Giving Square’s Kids for Kids program at FSES tasked these ambitious 4th graders with identifying causes, researching local kids charities, debate the qualities of different non-profits, and finally vote on the charity, or charities, that will then receive the $1000 donation. At the end of their program in May, the class identified The Children’s Cancer Foundation, Inc. to receive 100% of the funds designated from The Giving Square.“We hope this is an experience that will stick with them,” said the school program’s advisor, Robert Mauro, the FSES Library Media Specialist.
Joined by The Giving Square’s Executive Director, Amy Neugebauer, Tasha enjoyed answering questions from the class and hearing about how they conducted their research. “We are honored and humbled to be selected by such a dynamic group of students. They really put thought into the process. The donation will go a long way in making a difference for a child facing a diagnosis of cancer,” concluded Tasha as she thanked the class.
