Daryn Arrives

DarynStrawberry2With a beautiful smile and head full of flowing dark hair, Daryn was born a month premature on June 26th 2004 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center to parents Bernard and Charlene Strawberry. A most precious gift at 5 lbs ,11 ounces, family and friends would instantly label her the miracle baby.

Blessed with beauty, charm and wisdom beyond her years, Daryn dazzled all who knew her and strangers alike. While Daryn grew from an infant to a toddler her presence lit a smile around all who came in contact with her.

The news

It was upon Daryn’s 18th month check-up that it was discovered from a routine blood test by her Pediatrician that 80% of her blood did not appear normal.

The following day Daryn’s parents scheduled to meet with a pediatric oncologist at Sinai Hospital on January 20th 2006. It was during this appointment that Daryn’s Leukemia had been confirmed and a 2 ½ year regimen of chemotherapy started. Daryn endured daily doses of oral medication, weekly infusions, two blood transfusions and periodic stays in the hospital.

Becoming Cancer Free

On March 22nd 2008, Daryn was declared cancer free!

Through faith, blessings and a great Oncology team, Daryn currently enjoys a normal life full of get togethers with friends, trips, birthday parties, church, school and other social and physical activities.

Daryn enjoys visits to the library, reading a book with Mom, watching her favorite movies and is a regular participant on the youth choir at Huber Memorial Baptist Church. She is also a regular student swimmer at Meadow Brook Swim Club, has taken up tennis, and loves music and curling up with Dad to watch cartoons. Throughout it all, Daryn is an example of love, dedication, faith, and strength. She is a true inspiration to all.

Like so many others who endured the stress of chemotherapy and cancer treatments, Daryn has relied on CCF to help guide and support her.
